Aswan

The Nile at its most beautiful and the charm of Nubia

Southern Egypt · Nubia 3 trips October to April

About Aswan

A calm city among granite boulders and green islands, home to Philae Temple, colourful Nubian villages and sunset felucca rides.

In Aswan the Nile looks at its clearest as it flows between islands and boulders, with golden desert along the West Bank.

Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis, stands on Agilkia Island after being moved stone by stone in an international rescue campaign. Elephantine Island and the Nubian villages, with their distinctive architecture, are also worth a visit.

Aswan is the starting point for trips to the Abu Simbel temples further south — a fairly long drive that is well worth it.
